Chasing the wind (01)

Twisted fate

Life… is so depressing. Everything is temporary.

From palace to pit, pit to haven , haven to hell.

One moment you have it all, in a blink of an eye it’s all gone.

Then you’re fucked.

Chike staggered on the streets of Life camp Abuja.

“What did I do wrong! Where … did I go wrong?  Was I just too good?”

Chike’s  knees were shaking, in painful tears he removed his black coat and adjusted his mustard yellow tie.

A flashlight from a Venza and a big honk shook  him even more.

He turned.

“Need a ride?”

He frowned and ignored the lady. Not  because he’s being careful about getting into trouble but what would someone like her want to do with someone like him.

“I’m Beth. And no I’m not kidnapping you. Hop in let me drop you off”

Chike scoffed and murmured “not like I have anywhere to go”

He swallowed hard.

“Can I possibly crash at your place for the night. I will leave before you wake up”

The lady smiled

“ sure”

Who cares if she’s a kidnapper.

His memory flashed back to what happened earlier in the day.

From dressing his best, promising his friend Jide he won’t be burden anymore once he gets his gig,  to being rejected.

“Sorry Chike after much consideration we’ve decided to give someone else who is more qualified, the job.. Hopefully next time we’ll consider your application “

He felt the sharp throbbing pain in his chest again.

He was given a quick notice from his small apartment two days ago… Jide took him in even though it was difficult for him considering his apartment is smaller and he’s sharing the space with a co worker who’s a jerk..

The job was his only hope and now … what now?
