You’re done with your book and it’s time to share it to the world.
There are certain things you need to know before going into self publishing.
The Upsides:
1. You publish at a faster pace: you tend to publish your book faster with self publishing. Traditional publishing processes takes time.
2. Quite Easy: It’s not easy to find an agent or a publisher that’d accept your book right away and quickly publish it but things are different with self publishing. Your manuscript only needs to be ready.
3. Absolute control: traditional publishers tend to only accept stories they are sure will sell, anything outside that will be turned down. Whether you believe in your story or not. With self publishing, you are in control of everything. Once you are certain your story is good, you make the choices. No one will ask you to change your title or remove a chapter or delete a scene… you make the entire decision.
4. Much higher Royalties : when you use self publishing sites like Amazon Kindle Publishing, Lulu and the likes , you get to be paid royalties (up to 70 %) more than any traditional publisher will pay you because you did all the work
The Downsides of self publishing.
1. Too much expenses: self publishing seems simple until you have to pay for book cover design, editing, formatting, advertising, marketing and promotions. It’s quite a lot of expenses on your part.
2. Not always recognized: self published books are cool but people tend to look at it differently. As something anyone (writer or not) can do. Your chances of winning a literary award with a self published book is slight.
Nevertheless, keep writing. What’s important is, you’re sharing your ideas and thoughts with the world and you’re changing lives in your own little way.
