Anything worth doing is worth doing well
I used to wonder why growing up my mum would frown at how we make our beds or mop the floors or wash the dishes especially when we didn’t do it to her satisfaction. I thought she was a perfection freak, but now I realized she was inculcating the spirit of excellence. because it comes with the little things.
If you are used to doing things so halfheartedly you will always be average.
My dad hates it when we sweep and don’t pack the dust. he’d raise his voice for something as simple at that. he’d say, I’d be more at ease to see a dirty living room unswept than a swept one with unpacked rubbish
He’d say, if don’t want to do something well, don’t do it at all. but if you are going to do it, give it your full attention “breathe life into it”
And now it makes so much sense: breathe life into to it the sex the love the friendship the business the project… breathe life into it. don’t half ass it. be there. be present, that conversation, that dinner date…put your phone down , get out of your head, hold eye contact, listen…that dream of yours, show up. and each time you do show up, give it life. so that when you’re not there the difference will be clear …your absence will be felt… oh no one cleans the house like she does, no one cooks like she does, no one fucks like he does, no one cares like he does…
The greatest leverage is perhaps …presence
